Continued Volcanic Eruption Sees Evacuations and Flight Disruptions in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki was seen spewing ash into the sky in East Flores on Wednesday, November 13, 10 days after an initial eruption.

According to the Indonesia National Disaster Management Authority, nine people have been killed since the volcano began erupting, with more than 11,000 people evacuated, and close to 50 homes and schools damaged.

Footage posted online shows the volcano erupting on Tuesday night, with a tall column of ash filling the sky on Wednesday morning.

Several airlines including Qantas and Jetstar cancelled international flights to Bali on November 12 and 13, as the volcanic ash cloud posed a threat to safety. Credit: @SenyumAee via Storyful
