Controversial Skarp Laser Razor Kicked Off Kickstarter But Goes To Indiegogo

A futuristic laser razor has been removed from crowdfunding platform Kickstarter because it doesn’t yet exist.

The people behind the Skarp blameless razor claim it can shave facial hair with a laser beam, but Kickstarter have kicked the idea into touch because of a lack of any physical evidence that it works.

The Kickstarter page for the Skarp Laser Razor was suspended today, even though it had raised more than $4 million (£2.6 million) in funding, well over its goal of $160,000.

Undeterred by the knock back from Kickstarter, California company Skarp Technologies has simply placed it on crowdfunding rival Indiegogo, again asking for $160,000 in financial backing.

Kickstarter said the device was “in violation of our rule requiring working prototypes of physical products that are offered as rewards”.

The razor has already received more than $56,000 in backing on Indiegogo.

Its makers say the product, which will cost $89, will be ready next spring.

Sharp Technologies said Indiegogo had been “incredibly helpful and they believe in the Skarp Razor as much as we do”.
