The first production pictures of Letitia Wright in The Convert have been released.

Wright appears alongside Paapa Essiedu in Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira’s new play, which opens at the Young Vic Theatre this week.

Tony-nominated playwright Gurira’s show tells the story of a young woman who escapes a forced marriage in nineteenth century Rhodesia – modern day Zimbabwe – to find herself working for a devout Catholic priest. Identity, colonialism and the cost of faith are investigated in this drama.

Ola Ince directs a cast also including Jude Akuwudike, Ivanno Jeremiah, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Rudolphe Mdlongwa and Pamela Nomvete. Naomi Dawson has designed the production, with lighting by Bruno Poet, music by Max Perryment and choreography by Coral Messam.

The play is part of Kwame Kwei-Armah ’s first season as Artistic Director at the Young Vic.

The Convert runs December 14- January 26 at the Young Vic Theatre, youngvic.org
