Who is Cooke Maroney? Jennifer Lawrence engaged to her 'favourite person on the planet' – but what’s his age, net worth and more?

Actress Jennifer Lawrence is preparing to tie the knot with art dealer Cooke Maroney, following confirmation that the pair were engaged in February.

The couple were spotted in September at the Marriage Bureau in New York with a photographer in tow and Lawrence has since revealed her wedding gift list, featuring a robot mop and a copper fondue set.

Earlier this year, Lawrence opened up about how falling in love with Maroney changed her for the better, and how wedding planning was going.

Speaking to Catt Sandler on her podcast NAKED with Catt Sandler, Lawrence explained that she wasn’t marrying Cooke for the sake of getting married. She said, “I definitely wasn’t at a place where I was like, ‘I’m ready to get married.’ I just met Cooke and I wanted to marry him.”

She continued, “We wanted to marry each other. We wanted to commit fully. He’s my best friend so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favourite person in the planet and you’re like, 'you can’t leave.' So I wanted to take that offer.”

Lawrence was previously spotted wearing a “massive rock” as she enjoyed dinner with Maroney, 34, in New York, sparking rumours that they were engaged. (They confirmed the news shortly afterwards.) The couple, who are believed to have been introduced by their mutual friend Laura Simpson, celebrated their next big chapter in life with an engagement party.

A photo of Jennifer Lawrence smiling as she passed through a canopy of twinkling lights and lit candles was shared on social media. Wearing a flowing dress designed by her cousin’s bridal brand L. Wells, she looked every bit a bride-to-be. Her stylists Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson shared the image on Instagram.

It sounds like it was a lively celebration, as Lincoln and Johnson added that “too good of a time was had by all” in their caption.

The ring made its public debut at Paris Fashion Week when she displayed it for photographers on the way into the Christian Dior show. Lawrence was spotted wearing the ring again at the Tribeca Film Festival during a talk with David O. Russell.

The Sun also reported that Adele was planning Jennifer Lawrence's bachelorette party.

The pair have been dating since 2018, following Lawrence's break up with director Darren Aronofsky. Lawrence’s past relationships have included X-Men actor Nicholas Hoult and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

Lawrence has three Oscar nominations for her roles in Winter’s Bone, American Hustle and Joy and one win for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

But who exactly is Maroney? Well, according to Lawrence's statement at the Dark Phoenix premiere, "He's just the best person I've ever met in my whole life." J-Law also said that choosing to marry him, "...was a very, very easy decision."

Outside of that, here’s everything else you need to know about the future Mr. Jennifer Lawrence:

Who is Cooke Maroney?

Maroney is currently the director of Gladstone art gallery in New York City which boasts a collection of contemporary artwork.

According to The Cut, he’s previously worked with painter Carroll Dunham and Björk’s ex-boyfriend, sculptor Matthew Barney.

Maroney has always had an artistic flair. His father was an art dealer in Manhattan, encouraging Maroney to go on and study art history at NYU.

It’s reported that the pair were first introduced by Jennifer’s close friend, Laura Simpson in the summer of 2018.

The couple were first spotted in public enjoying a romantic stroll around New York in June 2018 and have been dating for around eight months. They confirmed their engagement in February of 2019.

While Lawrence previously led a more private life before Maroney, she explained on Catt Sandler’s podcast that he helped her see that she could do things that she “didn’t actually think that [she] could” like “going to restaurants” or “dive bars” (or even the occasional gay club with Adele).

She explained, “Honestly, I was dating someone and I didn't want to tell him about [it.] You know, I wanted to be normal and cool, so I just kind of hid that part of me and everything ended up being fine. And I was like, ‘oh, I can do this.’ It was cool.”

She also said of their relationship, “I don’t know. It was just, it was so organic. I don’t know, I haven’t talked about it yet in an interview setting. ”

The ring finally made its public debut at Paris Fashion Week. Lawrence, who was photographed with the stunner at Christian Dior's FW 2019 presentation, displayed the diamond for photographers.

While there's no official confirmation on who designed it or what its exact details are, a gemologist named Grant Mobley told ELLE.com, "The ring appears to be around a 4 to 5 carat emerald cut diamond and set in a classic platinum four prong solitaire mounting with a petit band."

Mobley continued, "Because there are no other stones or embellishments on the ring at all, you can tell that the natural center diamond was the most important part of this ring for the couple. A natural center diamond of that quality and size would be close to $200,000, and because large, natural diamonds are growing increasingly rare, this ring will definitely retain its value over time."

Page Six, who first broke the news of Lawrence's ring, reported: “It was a giant rock. They seemed like they were celebrating and people were talking about it. The ring was very noticeable. They were sitting back in a corner. She was wearing a cute black dress with white polka dots.”

When will Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney get married?

A date for the wedding is yet to be confirmed, but the two were spotted allegedly apartment hunting in New York in mid April.

Wedding preparations are well and truly underway according to Lawrence however, as she revealed that she was in a “good place” about it all. She explained, “I haven’t been neurotic about it. I’m too lazy to be neurotic. I like saw a dress I liked. I said, ‘oh, that’s the dress.’ I saw a venue, and I was like, ‘Cool, we got the venue.' Yesterday was my only bridezilla moment where I cried 'cause I thought I didn’t want to have a bachelorette party and then last minute, I decided I did.”

Sadly however, she and her friends couldn’t find a date that suited them and she ended up having a breakdown in front of Maroney about it. She said, “I didn't realise that I wanted it until yesterday, until I realised I couldn't have it, which is typical. My friend was like, 'Welcome to being a bride.' I've cried, I've officially joined the club.”

What is Cooke Maroney's net worth?

The art world seems to be paying off for Maroney as he is believed to be worth $25 million in an unconfirmed report. It's not a huge surprise given that his gallery Gladstone Gallery represents the likes of Anish Kapoor, Richard Prince and Lena Dunham's artist father Caroll Dunham.

A source told The Cut, "He’s definitely respected. He’s not a big player, but he’s a player."

"I’d say he understands what good art is, as opposed to a lot of art dealers who just like to go to parties and do deals," Maroney said, "I know that he likes contemporary but I know he also appreciates modernism. I think he really has solid taste in art and he’s a very good art dealer, and I expect a fruitful career out of him."
