Heartless thieves are being hunted by cops after the theft of a defibrillator from outside East Kilbride police station.

The lifesaving equipment was stolen from an external wall of the station on Andrew Street in the town centre on Monday, August 19.

Defibrillators are devices that apply an electric charge or current to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat.

If the heart rhythm stops due to cardiac arrest, also known as sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), a defibrillator may help it start beating again.

Blasting the despicable crime, Community Policing Inspector Karen McColl said: "The theft of this lifesaving equipment is extremely reckless, has deprived the local community of a vital resource and could result in the loss of life.

"I'd urge anyone who has information about the theft or location of the defibrillator now to contact us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0725 of 19 August, 2024. Information can also be provided via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
