Cops injured in 'attack' after pulling over car on Scots road as two arrested

The incident sparked a major police response

Two men have been arrested following an alleged attack on a pair of police officers after they pulled over a car in Lanarkshire.

The incident happened after cops stopped a vehicle in Coatbridge on Friday. The car was stopped at around 1pm on the town's Sikeside Street.

A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were subsequently arrested in connection with police assault and disorder offences.

Two officers suffered injuries but did not require hospital treatment. Cops say their enquiries are ongoing.

Images from the scene show cops swarming the area, with residents reporting that 13 vehicles were deployed to the street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, officers stopped a car on Sikeside Street, Coatbridge.

"A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with police assault and disorder offences and enquiries are ongoing. Two officers suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment."
