Was Jeremy Corbyn tempted to run through any fields of wheat on his way to Glastonbury? Not a chance.

The Labour Party leader and Islington North MP was at Worthy Farm this weekend, where he took to the Pyramid Stage to introduce Run the Jewels with a rather rousing speech.

Corbyn sat down for a chat with NME, where he was asked if he planned on taking any detours through nearby wheat fields over the course of the weekend at Worthy Farm.

His response? Priceless.

"I'm far too responsible a citizen to run through a wheat field," said Corbyn in a totally deadpan tone, with a knowing smile.

"I grew up in the countryside in Wiltshire – and then later in Shropshire – and I was taught from a very, very early age, you walk around the edge of a cropped field. You don't walk through fields of wheat, because it'll damage the wheat.

"I'm very shocked anyone would run through a wheat field and damage wheat. It's a terrible thing to do."

Corbyn's comments of course follow Theresa May's General Election campaign confession that running through fields of wheat in her (ahem) 'hay' days was the naughtiest thing she had ever done.

Like Corbyn's reaction, the candid revelation sparked ripples of fury within the farming community and achieved trending status via the use of creative memes and GIFs.

The moment has even been immortalised in this Glastonbury flag.

Brilliant.

Glastonbury Festival finishes today (Sunday, June 25) with a Pyramid Stage headlining performance from Ed Sheeran.
