Richie Barker says Corey Blackett-Taylor's goal against Norwich will give the winger a boost after admitting he has had a stop-start career at Derby County.

Blackett-Taylor scored his first goal for the club since his move from Charlton in January when he struck having come off the bench in Saturday's 3-2 defeat. The former Aston Villa winger has had a frustrating time at Pride Park so far with injuries hampering his attempts to nail down a place in the first team.

There have been calls over the weekend for Paul Warne to start the winger and the head coach might well be tempted into doing so against Sunderland tomorrow night. And speaking ahead of the night's trip to the Stadium of Light, Barker is not the only one hoping it can light the touchpaper on his time at Derby.

"It's obviously been stop start for him," he said. "He came in and and played a part for a little bit, then picked up a couple of injuries and picked up another injury this summer.

"There's no getting away from it, but the squad's pretty strong at the minute, and he had to even bide his time to get back on the bench. He did pretty well in a couple of behind-closed-doors games where he's gradually built up his minutes again and looked sharp in training. He looked really good in training three or four weeks ago, but not enough to get on the bench which was frustrating for him, I'm sure.

"That showed the depth of the squad in terms of the substitutions that we had available to us. But he took his goal really well and obviously from a disappointing point of view, Kayden has that chance a couple of minutes later, and it would have been even nicer for Corey meant that his goal had meant something to a result. But it has given him a boost and it is up to him to build on that."
