Cornwall Council bins being delivered to next areas ahead of fortnightly collections
A large part of Cornwall is getting new bins delivered ahead of the impending rollout of a new fortnightly rubbish collection and recycling system - and here is everything you need to know.
Deliveries are being made to households across the mid west area Cornwall over the coming days, weeks and months in preparation of the new system launch. Currently the waste service, being rolled out over two years, is active in the rest of Cornwall with the penultimate area commencing with their new fortnightly waste services this week.
But there is one final series of locations that are due to see the new system in place as of next year. Camborne, Redruth, Falmouth, Penryn, St Mawes, Truro, Probus, Trispen, Mitchell, Perranporth, Portreath, St Agnes and surrounding areas are all gearing up for the changes that include alternate weeks of rubbish and recycling collections. There is also a new food waste system that will be collected weekly.

Cornwall Council has been rolling out the new services since January 2024, when it started with Mid Cornwall. This was followed by South East Cornwall in April and West Cornwall in July. The service starts across North East Cornwall as of November and people living in Mid West Cornwall can expect their service to start some time in 2025.
Information and leaflets will likely be getting delivered to addresses from November 2024 in this area ahead of the launch. You are not supposed to use the new bins when they arrive though and should continue to use your current ones until told otherwise.

Cornwall Council says that so far the system has proven to be a success with recycling increasing from 40 per cent to 55 per cent of total waste. There have been some "teething issues" but overall people are said to have responded positively to the changes.
The local authority has already visited each house to determine whether you will be getting a black refuse sack or wheelie bin - depending on storage and access to your property. Recycling bins and bags are to be used in the same way as they always have. For more information on exactly what bins you will be getting and how to use them, read this story here.
