Coronation Street actress Melanie Hughes dies suddenly aged 39

Former Coronation Street and Cold Feet actress Melanie Hughes has passed away at the age of 39, her husband confirmed today.

Rick Hughes told the Daily Post that Melanie died suddenly on Sunday [8 October], and the cause of death is currently unknown.

Speaking to the publication, Rick said: “Mel was a lovely soul, she was kind and gentle. Mel was so kindhearted and had time for absolutely everyone.

“We are absolutely devastated at the loss of such a wonderful spirit and will never ever forget her.”

Melanie previously won the title of Miss. Wales in 1997 and was mum to three-year-old Kaden and step-mum to Rick’s 16-year-old daughter, Taylor.

Rick continued to the publication: “Kaden doted on his mummy. He is asking where mummy is.

“We had a holiday of a lifetime two months ago in Disney World Florida with my family and I am so glad we did as that has so many pictures with so many memories.”

Melanie made several appearances on TV programmes in the 90s and 00s but swapped the acting world for a job at the energy conservation firm Kingspan, where she has worked for the last 15 years.

Melanie and Rick had been together for 10 years and tied the knot in June 2011.
