Coronation Street has explained why Michelle Connor is missing from Ryan's acid attack story.
Earlier this week, Ryan was hit with acid by Daisy Midgeley's stalker Justin as he attempted to disrupt her wedding to Daniel Osbourne. He now faces life-changing health issues.
Fans naturally wondered how the soap would address mum Michelle's absence from the cobbles since Kym Marsh is no longer working on Coronation Street.
Soap bosses answered that question promptly in Wednesday's (March 29) hour by revealing that Michelle was unable to travel to the UK because she's "having an operation".
Kym Marsh left Coronation Street in 2019 in a hugely-publicised exit storyline, and while she's refused to rule out returning to the show, nothing has materialised just yet.
The main crux of Wednesday's episode switched between Daisy struggling with her stalker's actions and Ryan receiving guidance from doctors and a therapist about how his life would now change.
Ryan wasn't yet ready to see his face unbandaged, and he even pushed Alya away by insisting he didn't want visitors in his hospital room.
However, Ryan was relieved when Daisy turned up because he could thank her for her quick thinking in getting him to a shower and cutting off his burnt T-shirt following the attack.
Daisy took no solace from Ryan's words, telling him that they both know Justin's acid was meant for her and she 'should' be the one in the hospital.
Of course, Dasy shouldn't be blaming herself, as the only person responsible for the attack is her evil stalker Justin, who's now in police custody.
Soap bosses have worked with The Katie Piper Foundation and Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) on this storyline to ensure that it authentically presents the experiences of those in similar circumstances.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
