Coronation Street airs Damon Hay twist after Bethany hospitalisation

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has aired a major Damon Hay twist following Bethany Platt's hospitalisation.

Last week, Bethany's mum Sarah Platt took an emergency flight to Turkey after learning that her daughter had developed sepsis following a botched liposuction procedure.

Sarah eventually had to break the news to Bethany that she'd have to wear a stoma bag for the rest of her life due to severe damage to her bowel.

There were severe financial considerations as well since Bethany's surgery cost £15,000 and it was £2,000 extra for every day she was in the hospital.

Daniel Osbourne launched a crowdfunding appeal to help pay off Bethany's £25,000 medical fees, though Daisy Midgeley pointed out he wasn't being honest. It turned out that Daniel had left off the website that Bethany's botched procedure was elective rather than medical.

Monday's episode (September 30) saw the news filter through Weatherfield that Sarah and Bethany were essentially stuck in Turkey unless they could pay.

Sarah turned to her ex-husband Adam Barlow for support, explaining that she'd reached out to a loan company but hadn't heard back yet.

Since Sarah was unable to check her voicemail in the hospital, she gave Adam the code to check for her in case the loan company called back.

Adam was angry to discover a voicemail from Sarah's former flame Damon Hay offering to help with her dire financial situation.

Damon was last seen being put behind bars after he'd been blackmailed into getting involved in a botched robbery by his brother Harvey.

Adam listened as Damon left the address of a lock-up where Sarah could find some money to help get Bethany back home.

When Sarah called Adam, he simply claimed: "It's a no on that loan, I'm afraid."

Following his lie, Adam encouraged Sarah not to worry, assuring her everything would be fine. Adam's lies could soon catch up with him since Damon will be appearing in prison-based scenes coming up.

Gail Platt will also consider making a huge sacrifice to bring Bethany home in future episodes, as she weighs up selling the family home to pay off her granddaughter's medical debt.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
