Coronation Street favourite Steve McDonald is reportedly set to marry for the seventh time – making him the most prolific groom in the soap’s history.

The former landlord – played by Simon Gregson - is apparently set to get down on one knee and propose to his former wife, mother of his child and current girlfriend Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford.

The pair first walked down the aisle in 2012 but a row at the wedding reception spelled a quick end to their wedded bliss, although it took a year to be able to file for divorce.

But since rekindling their romance, sources claim that Steve wants to make a real go of it with the feisty Barlow and is set to propose again.

An insider told The Sun: “Steve McDonald might not be the best looking bloke in soap history, but boy has he had some romances.

“In the next few weeks he will be seen going down on one knee to Tracy, who duly accepts.

“It’s the seventh time he’s been married, but writers are still to decide if they’ll get down the aisle, as love is never straightforward in Weatherfield.”

Standard Online have contacted representatives for Coronation Street for comment.

Steve first married in Vicky Arden in 1995 with their marriage last two years – a timespan clearly appealing to Steve as he then wed Karen Phillips (Suranne Jones) from 2001 to 2003 and then 2004 to 2006.

The taxi driver then called time on his nuptials until 2009, marrying Becky Granger – played by Katherine Kelly – for two years.

After his first failed marriage to Tracy, Steve then married Michelle Connor – played by Kym Marsh – with whom he had a son, Ruairi, who died after being delivered at 23 weeks.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
