Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has cast a former EastEnders star as part of Yasmeen Metcalfe's prison storyline.

Nicola Duffett – who played Debbie Bates on EastEnders between 1993 and 1995 – will be seen on screen in the Weatherfield soap from next week as Lucie, Yasmeen's prison friend.

Lucie will befriend Yasmeen (Shelley King) and get involved after a scheming Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) tells Yasmeen that he will forgive her if she agrees to be his wife again.

Yasmeen considers Geoff's offer before Lucie approaches her with a contraband phone, suggesting that Yasmeen call Geoff and take control of the conversation.

Duffett's EastEnders character Debbie was killed off in a hit-and-run 25 years ago. She went on to star in Family Affairs as Cat MacKenzie between 1999 and 2005.

In 2015, she made a guest appearance in Coronation Street as a different character named Mrs Bird.

Duffett's appearance as Lucie comes as the show is preparing to introduce Geoff's former partner Elaine, who will be played by Paula Wilcox.

Further spoilers for next week reveal that Geoff will go to the police station and request that all charges against Yasmeen are dropped. Alya Nazir believes Geoff has an ulterior motive behind the move.

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
