Coronation Street has confirmed who is behind Lauren Bolton's disappearance - and suspected murder - as the 'terrified' actor playing him speaks out. It's been a busy week so far in Weatherfield with fans of the ITV soap getting their cobbles fix every night.

The special week of episodes comes three months since the teenager mysteriously disappeared from her precinct flat without a trace. She was last seen on the cobbles on February 23 after being sacked from her job at Roy's Rolls by Roy. The café owner later visited her with her wages and some extra cash to tide her over.

But soon after, the teen was visited at home by a mystery person, who viewers never got to see, and she hasn't been seen since. Roy was imprisoned awaiting trial after being charged for Lauren's murder after blood was found in her flat but on Thursday night (May 30), after previous episodes showed the same day from different characters' perspective, Roy was released from prison and the truth was finally revealed.

While the recently returned Nathan Curtis was charged with Lauren's murder after newcomer Kit Green planted evidence in his van, his solicitor Joel Deering was looking pretty shifty. And he had good reason to be as he may have gotten away with murder as a flashback clip revealed him to be Lauren's secret 'boyfriend' and him brutally attacking her.

Following the scenes - which proved a long-held fan theory right - actor Calum Lill, who joined Corrie last year as fellow solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey's love interest, shared how it feels for the public to finally know it was him.

"I'm terrified but it's also a relief," he confessed. "I've known this for over a year. It was last May that I got sent the breakdown for Joel saying that he was a charming character who's got a dark side. When I got the screen test they said, ‘Okay, this is what Joel is going to be doing’. I thought, 'Oh my goodness, like this is a really terrible person. And I've got to hide in plain sight for a year.;"

Revealing how he felt about the twist with Joel, Calum said: "I felt a huge weight of responsibility on my shoulders to do well and not give it away and not play some cliche, because the things Joel has done have happened to people in real life. So I had meetings with charities and did research. I watched documentaries and read psychological papers to create as much truth as possible.

"The thing that I kept in my mind was I would never want anyone who'd experienced anything like that to be watching something on screen that didn’t feel authentic and feel offended. I did also feel safe because of all the work behind the scenes that went into creating this character and this storyline. Everyone has been so invested in making it quality and making it something to be proud of."

And it's not just viewers who the secret has been kept from as Calum's also not been able to tell his family who are Corrie fans - particularly his Grandmother. "It has been difficult - even my family don’t know, they will have found out at the same time as the viewers," the soap star shared.

"I don’t think they were suspicious as they probably didn't think I could play an evil character like Joel. I was having Sunday dinner with my family a couple of weeks ago, and they were all talking about their own theories of who they think it is. And every one of them has got a different one and not one of them thinks it is Joel. They have not been suspicious of me at all. They were aware that some people were suspicious online but believed me!"

On how his Gran will react after he revealed on social media she was texting him telling you to be nice to Dee-Dee and upset that Joel was previously revealed to be married with a daughter, Calum said: "Haha I don’t know but I am going to try and watch it with her, it will be like watching a horror film, she will lose her mind, she might call the police, she will want to ring Dee-Dee. She has known my girlfriend for four years but she is very invested in Joel and Dee-Dee."
