Coronation Street have denied they’re on the verge of sacking veteran actor Michael Le Vell over his out-of-work conduct.

The soap has played down reports that the longtime actor who plays Kevin Webster in the ITV1 drama is about to be given his marching orders, after he was arrested for a domestic incident at his home, according to Metro.

The actor, 53, was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse but was released by police without charge. An on-set source told the outlet that the decision to sack him is false, saying that he missed some of his filming schedule but caused little disruption to the show.

‘He was taken out of one scene when he called in advance to say he couldn’t film that day,’ the source claimed. ‘The scene was filmed without him as Coronation Street adapts on these occasions, so his absence didn’t affect his fellow cast or crew.’

An official spokesperson for the famed soap also played down any rumours of disruption or sackings, by saying: ‘Michael has been filming with us this week as normal.’

Le Vell has featured on the Manchester-based soap since 1981, having been something of a regular face on ‘the street’ for an incredible 37 years.

Only last year did Le Vell confirm he’d signed a contract extension with the programme, ahead of a big storyline that sees him tied to the northern drama for another year.

Catch Coronation Street weeknight, from 7.30pm, on ITV1.
