Coronation Street and Emmerdale filming disrupted by "alarming increase in COVID cases"

Coronation Street and Emmerdale filming has reportedly been disrupted by an "alarming increase in COVID cases".

Having both suspended production for two weeks in January over coronavirus concerns, the ITV soaps are said to be experiencing an even more substantial rise in cases amid the recent spread of the Delta variant.

It's thought their current schedules are in havoc as a result, with Mail Online reporting that the cast and crew on both soaps have been officially warned to stick to precautions in an email sent by ITV in the North head John Whiston.

It comes as both soaps are reportedly lined up to film key episodes that will comprise ITV's "super soap week" later in the year.

Due to return this autumn, the week normally marks each soap airing the conclusion of an explosive storyline and usually involves a huge stunt.

It's not known how or whether the current coronavirus concerns will impact either soap when it comes time to air the episodes.
