'Coronation Street' under fire for abuse storyline as Ofcom gets 359 complaints
Coronation Street has been hit with 359 Ofcom complaints following disturbing scenes in the domestic abuse storyline between Geoff Metcalfe and his wife, Yasmeen.
Fans were horrified last week after scenes showed Geoff – who’s played by Ian Bartholomew in the ITV soap – killed Yasmeen’s beloved pet chicken, Charlotte, and then watched as she ate it.
When he revealed his latest cruel trick, Yasmeen (Shelley King) headed out into the garden where she started sobbing uncontrollably.
It was too much for many viewers to bear and Ofcom revealed yesterday the amount of complaints they’d received.
Long suffering Yasmeen accidentally infuriated her abusive husband by not including any meat in his supper.
She pleaded that she couldn’t afford any after he put her on a strict housekeeping budget, despite Yasmeen being a co-owner of restaurant Speed Dahl.

A livid Geoff then scraped his veggie dinner into the bin and ordered Yas upstairs while he sorted the meat situation.
He then stormed into the garden calling Charlotte, leaving viewers in no doubt about what he was going to do next.
Geoff was later seen serving poor Charlotte up to Yasmeen, roasted. He taunted her by asking if her meal was too dry.

He said: “I thought she might be a bit dry being an older bird” before raising a glass and toasting Charlotte for feeding them one last time.
Yasmeen fled the room in horror while fans took to Twitter to voice their discomfort at the shocking scenes.

I know it's an important issue and raising awareness is very important but last night's episode with Geoff and Charlotte the chicken was very upsetting - I know it's not real but I can't stop thinking about that little chicken and Yasmeen #corrie
