Coronation Street hints at Gail Platt's exit storyline as Bethany's surgery nightmare continues
Coronation Street has hinted at what could see Gail Platt leave Weatherfield after five decades as Bethany Platt's surgery nightmares continue. Viewers of the ITV soap recently saw Bethany head to Turkey to work with a cosmetic surgery clinic.
It was Debbie Webster who informed Bethany that a friend of hers is the CEO of a cosmetic surgery company who was looking for someone to write an advertorial on their new facility in Turkey. After initially turning it down, her boyfriend Daniel Osbourne convinced her to change her mind.
Having headed to Turkey, Bethany will face a life-changing trauma when the cosmetic procedure in Turkey goes disastrously wrong when she makes the decision to undergo liposuction at the clinic.

Things worsen as Bethany never declared the surgery to her travel insurance, leaving the Platt’s desperately trying to work out how to raise the funds needed to allow Bethany to be discharged. Viewers will see Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, in a critical condition after contracting sepsis as a result of a botched procedure, leading to her living with a permanent stoma.
Spoilers have now revealed that next week in Corrie, while unable to access her voicemail while in Turkey and waiting for news from a loan company, Bethany's mum Sarah asks ex-husband Adam Barlow to check them. As Adam listens, he’s shocked to come across one from love rival Damon Hay.
Later, the Turkish hospital the CEO of the cosmetic surgery company approaches Sarah and explains that they’d like to pay for her hotel accommodation. When Sarah demands they should be paying the medical bills the CEO hands her Bethany’s consent form.
When David Platt tells grandmother Audrey Roberts how the cosmetic surgery company is refusing to pay Bethany’s medical bills, Audrey reckons they should go online and spread the word about what the company is really like.
But when Gail suggests she could sell the house to raise the money for Bethany’s medical bills, David’s horrified, pointing out they’d be homeless. Meanwhile, when Daniel Osbourne reveals his plan to use some of son Bertie's trust fund money to help Bethany, Ken Barlow urges him to think again.
It comes as Gail's exit from the street is set for the end of 2024 after actress Helen Worth made the decision to step down from the iconic role after 50 years. She started filming her final storyline over the summer and the emotional scenes will be on screen at the end of the year.
Confirming the reason behind her exit, Helen said in a statement: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding."
She added: "I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet."
