Coronation Street icon announces break from ITV soap after harrowing storyline

Coronation Street's Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew, has been flooded with the same message from friends and fans alike as he shared an update on his life away from the cobbles following a heart-wrenching week for his character. The actor has recently been at the centre of some harrowing scenes in the ITV soap. As regular viewers will know, Billy tragically missed the chance to say goodbye to his husband Paul Foreman, who sadly died.

Paul, a former builder portrayed by Peter Ash, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a currently incurable condition, in April 2023. He and his family then watched his health decline dramatically, starting with losing the use of his limbs and eventually his ability to speak. However, in recent episodes, Paul's health took a turn for the worse and he was rushed to hospital struggling to breathe. Later, after doctors told his family that there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable, Paul took his last breath.

In a gut-wrenching twist, a series of events, beginning with Billy looking for his lost phone, delayed his arrival at the hospital, stopping him from saying goodbye. Although he thought he had expressed his feelings to Paul over the phone, in reality, Paul had already tragically passed away, reports the Mirror.

Corrie's Billy Mayhew actor Daniel Brocklebank is swapping the cobbles for the Caribbean, as he takes a break from the emotional turmoil of his on-screen character. After dealing with the heartache of not being present during Paul's final moments and confronting Paul's grieving mother Bernie Winter, Daniel is ready for some downtime.

The star shared his excitement on Instagram with a sunny selfie and the words: "It appears that I've awoken in the Caribbean!! Bring on the relax, sunshine and much needed sleep!" His partner Jordan Coulthard showed support with the message, "You deserve this so much babe. Have the best time!" while former co-star Peter Ash commented, "Looks amazing! Enjoy your well-deserved rest, buddy!"

Fans also poured in their good wishes, with one saying: "Enjoy @danielbrocklebank well deserved."

Another added, "Enjoy your much deserved R&R!", and others echoed the sentiment, "Well deserved! Enjoy your rest and relaxation!" and "Enjoy your well deserved break Daniel."

One more fan remarked: "Much deserved Daniel! Have a wonderful time."
