A Coronation Street star has confirmed they are back filming on the ITV soap - months after their soap exit. Actress Sair Khan shot to fame playing Alya Nazir on the cobbles in 2014. And over the years, she’s played a part in several big storylines.

However, earlier this year, it was confirmed that Alya was saying her goodbyes to the soap. In real life, Sair headed on maternity leave - and went on to welcome her baby boy in April. Viewers at the time saw Alya almost embark on a romance with her boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson). However, she decided to choose a work opportunity in Dublin.

But on Wednesday (September 11) Sair revealed to fans that she was back on set. Taking to her Instagram, the soap star uploaded a snap of the her script with the caption, "I'm Backstreet.”

The news of Sair’s return left plenty of fans overjoyed. However, some viewers were quick to share their thoughts on what the character Alya could be getting up to when her return airs on screen.

Sharing their thoughts online, viewers speculated that Alya and Adam could finally get together. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person reacted to Alya’s comeback and said: “Wonder if Alya & Adam will get back together.”

Someone else penned: “Brilliant his girlfriend is back.” A third chimed in and wrote: “Adam and Alya are sooo getting together then.”

In April, Sair welcomed a son with her partner Nathan Chilton after a 22-hour labour - something she described as an "absolute rollercoaster". Taking to Instagram at the time, Sair revealed: “He's here! Okay, when I said 'Spring awakening' in my last post I didn't mean 'keep' me awake. The new parent zombie look is definitely a thing isn't it.

More importantly our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He's super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour. We didn't quite get the birth i'd hoped for but that's okay (two birth pools, no water birth).”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
