Coronation Street Leanne Battersby star addresses soap future after 30 years

Coronation Street icon Jane Danson has provided insight into what the future may hold for her character Leanne Battersby- and it doesn't look promising.

The 46-year-old appeared on ITV's This Morning on Wednesday (January 22) to discuss her 30-year soap career with presenters Ben Shephard, Cat Deeley and soap insider Sharon Marshall.

Reflecting on some of Leanne's greatest storylines, Ben wanted to find out what fans could expect for Leanne following her latest struggles on the cobbles.

Ben asked: "Do you think she'll ever get that happy ending?" Hesitating, Jane replied: "Err yeah, no! I'd like to see her get some happiness.

"Not necessarily the happy ending, I don't think she's one of those characters, she always messes it up."

Ben asked whether Leanne had the tendency to self-sabotage, to which Jane agreed.

She added: "Yeah, you could say that; it's all going so well, so she goes into self-destruct mode."

After hearing Jane's revelation, one social media user took to X and wrote: "I'm sure she has had few happy endings."

In recent weeks on Coronation Street, Leanne has been going through a turbulent and emotional time.

She has been dealing with the aftermath of her son Oliver's tragic death, which has left her in deep grief which ultimately took a toll on her relationship with Nick Tilsley.

Not only this but Nick and Leanne's sister Toyah's affair has caused significant tension between the two siblings, leading to emotional turmoil for both.

The complicated situation began when Toyah, already dealing with her own struggles, turned to Nick for support, and the two found themselves caught up in an unexpected romantic entanglement.

Their affair has led to deep emotional conflict and shock when Leanne later realised that they wanted to actually give their new relationship a go.

Recently, Leanne was charged with fraud after she tried to frame her sister Toyah and her ex-fiancé Nick.

After Nick and Toyah begged the police to drop the charges against Leanne, she later received a community order. But although things seem relatively smooth at the moment, there could be more trouble ahead for Leanne.

This Morning airs Mondays-Fridays from 10am on ITV1.
