Coronation Street veteran Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt, is reportedly set to return to the soap after a 13-year absence.

Platt, who was known for his womanising ways, was written out of the series in 2005 after 20 years in Weatherfield.

But now the former cobbles resident seems set for a rover’s return as part of his son David’s sexual assault storyline.

A source told The Sun: “Martin has been mentioned a lot on the show since he left but it has involved other characters, mostly David, going to see him off-screen.

“But with David’s rape storyline, the writers thought it would be a good time to have him back properly.

“It’s not a permanent arrangement but fans will get to see Sean back as Martin for a good few weeks.”

Wilson left the soap in 2005 when his character Platt moved to Liverpool with girlfriend Robyn.

The actor went on to set up his own cheese company, but previously revealed he hadn’t ruled out a return to TV.

When asked if he would consider any more on-screen roles, he told The Mirror: “Very much so. I have an agent and I'm offered things but I'm fortunate enough to weigh things up as to whether I want to do it.

“I still speak to one or two from Coronation Street, but they're wrapped up in that world. When you're in that world you don't have time for a social world.”
