The 81-year-old actor, who played textiles boss Mike Baldwin on the Street for 40 years, has previously disowned the pair, who have struggled with drug addiction for years.

51-year-old Karen Briggs and her daughter Emma Beach, 28, were sent to prison yesterday after being charged with theft. The pair were found guilty of stealing bikes from a train station in Surrey to finance their drug addiction.

“Briggs was charged with four breaches of a criminal behaviour order and one count of a pedal cycle theft at Cobham rail station on June 21. She was sentenced to nine months imprisonment,” said a police spokesperson.

“Beach was charged with four counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order, thefts of a pedal cycle at Cobham rail station on June 21 and July 18. She also stole a bike from Oxshott rail station on July 18. She was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment.”

The pair have struggled with heroin addiction for years, and appeared before the courts for more than 70 offences. They are believed to have carried out 100 thefts between them to fund their drug use, which Beach took up aged just 14.

The pair appeared at Reading Crown Court in October 2014 when they were charged with stealing £278 of alcohol from a Waitrose store and were banned from going into the supermarket again.

They were then back in court the following January for stealing £400 worth of candles from a branch of Clinton Cards. Briggs was imprisoned for six months and Beach given a treatment order.

The pair were arrested once again in August 2015 for shoplifting from an M&S store, which saw Briggs barred from spending more than two hours a day with her daughter.

Johnny Briggs has declined to comment on the pair’s latest arrest.
