Coronation Street newcomer Elaine Jones is Tim Metcalfe's mother

From Digital Spy

Coronation Street spoilers follow from Monday's episode (July 27).

Coronation Street has revealed that newcomer Elaine Jones is Tim Metcalfe's long-lost mother.

Elaine (Paula Wilcox) dropped the bombshell in the closing moments of Monday's episode, as she confided in Alya Nazir and Ryan Connor with the truth.

The new character made her debut last week, introducing herself to Yasmeen Metcalfe as an ex-partner of Geoff's and revealing that she was abused by him years ago.

Corrie's latest episode has now revealed more information on Elaine's backstory, as she's actually Geoff's first wife.

Elaine, who used to go by the name of Philippa, is also the mum of Tim. She left him with Geoff years ago when she fled from the family home for her own safety, never coming back.

Geoff later lied to his son, making out that his first wife died and that his second wife Tess was Tim's biological mother.

In a private chat near the tram station, Elaine told Alya: "You asked me how I got out. I got out by giving up my boy. My son. Not just giving him up. By leaving my baby with him [Geoff]."

Alya replied: "Wait, your son? You're talking about Tim."

Although the truth was now in the open, Elaine panicked and insisted that Tim couldn't ever know the truth. She ultimately fled from the cobbles, too nervous to join Alya in taking a stand against Geoff.

Coronation Street has already confirmed that this isn't the last we'll see of Elaine. Upcoming episodes see her continue to struggle with her decision over whether to testify at Yasmeen's attempted murder trial.

Elaine will also introduce herself separately to Tim and Sally, sparking a furious reaction from Geoff when he confronts her next week.

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
