Daily tours of the ITV soap’s set in Glasgow have been called off until further notice after a tear in one of the air-wall panels at the inflatable Showdome was spotted.

A spokesperson for Coronation Street On Tour told the Glasgow Evening Times: “Technicians are on site assessing the situation.

“In the interim and in the interest of guest safety, the attraction will not be open to the public and those with tickets for tours within the forthcoming 24 hours have been notified.“

While it is not known exactly what caused the damage, the rip is thought to be the result of bad weather.

The spokesperson added: "The initial assumption was this is as a result of inclement weather conditions however, until the assessment has been completed this has not been confirmed.”

The attraction enables Corrie fans to have a picture taken in the famous Rovers Return pub set and also sample the delights of Roy’s Rolls and The Kabin, plus see what the latest gossip is at Street Cars.

Fans are also treated to a virtual reality by Alison King, who portrayed Carla Connor, and can have a nose around in the Platts’ house.

Coronation Street on Tour premiered at the SECC in Glasgow on August 27 and it is expected to remain there until January 1.

The decision to go on tour to Glasgow came after the Manchester-based Coronation Street The Tour attracted nearly one million visitors in a month.
