Coronation Street fans will see Alina Pop's storyline step up a gear next week, as Seb Franklin makes a discovery.

Alina (Ruxandra Porojnicu) will be taking centre stage in a modern slavery storyline this summer, as viewers finally learn the truth about her living and working conditions.

New spoilers released on Coronation Street's official website have now confirmed that Alina's on-off boyfriend Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) will find out what's going on next week.

Seb ends up on the right track after realising that Alina has mysteriously lied to him about leaving her job at the nail bar.

When Seb seeks an explanation from Alina over why she's avoiding him, he inadvertently finds out where she's living and is shocked by the poor conditions.

Panicking, Alina orders him to leave at once – but will Seb really back down so easily?

Coronation Street bosses have previously announced plans to raise awareness of modern slavery with Alina's storyline.

The show newcomer was brought over to the UK as part of an Eastern European human trafficking ring and is being exploited by her boss at the nail bar.

Future episodes will see Seb attempt to bring those responsible to justice, putting himself – and possibly others – at risk in the process. The ITV soap will also be exploring Jan Lozinski's possible link to the criminals.

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod recently said: "This is one of the biggest hidden scandals in the UK today. Our research has shown us that in many towns and cities across Britain, people are being forced to work against their will, living in extreme poverty and in fear for their safety, all so ruthless criminal gangs can get rich at their expense.

"We are keen to highlight that slavery hides in plain sight – the salon which does your nails for a too-good-to-be-true price, the car wash which valets your hatchback for half the going rate... these could all be staffed by people who are being coerced, threatened and exploited."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
