Coronation Street is set to welcome two new “nightmare” characters - and one of them is Michelle Keegan’s co-star.

New soap couple Lou (Farrel Hegarty) and Mick Michaelis(Joe Layton) are due to arrive on the cobbles next month, “all guns blazing”. And according to ITV, fellow Weatherfield residents will need to “watch their backs”.

The Michaelis move into Mawdsley Street, at the back of Chesney (Sam Aston) and Gemma’s (Dolly-Rose Campbell) house - and it will be the first time Coronation Street have extended the drama across the ginnel.

Lou rocks up to the street first on the 12th of February, Lou and sparks up a friendship with Gemma due to their children going to the same school.

Mick then makes his first appearance on the 14th of February. But in a shock twist, it is revealed that he is the man with the silver van who has been harassing Chesney for weeks.

After developing a friendship with the Winter-Browns, it’s evident that Mick and Lou are determined to create upheaval. It’s also been revealed the pair have a prior connection to Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), leading to them exposing his secretive past.

Speaking of her new role as Lou, Farrel Hegarty described her as “an exciting character to play because she’s got good and bad parts to her, she’s a life force and full of beans”.

She added: “She’s a very colourful person who likes to make waves and try to cause chaos. But she also has that strong family loyalty, especially between Mick and Lou, they are thick as thieves and will stick up for each other, even when they probably shouldn’t…”

And it turns out actor Farrel is no stranger to appearing on screens - even starring alongside Michelle Keegan - who played Tina on Coronation Street - on Sky comedy Brassic.

“I went to drama school and did a bit of theater. I was in Brassic earlier this year and have been in Emmerdale before,” Farrel said.

As well as playing Laura Atkinson in Emmerdale in 2014, Farrel has even appeared on Coronation Street before in 2019. She revealed: “I played a reporter on the Boxing Day episode so it feels like a full circle moment which makes it even more exciting. But this is definitely my first big role.”

When asked to describe her character Lou, Farrell replied: “I don’t know if I’d be allowed to say the words that initially come to mind… Irrational, gobby and fiery - but I’d also say loyal too so there’s four words!”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
