Coronation Street spoilers: Gary Windass to 'return from the dead' this Christmas

It is tradition for soaps to be even more dramatic than usual at Christmas time, and Coronation Street’s 2017 storyline looks set to be one of the most dramatic of all, according to new reports.

In a shock twist, fan favourite Gary Windass will return from the dead over Christmas – news that has confused some fans as, as it stands, Gary is still very much alive.

Speaking to The Sun, a source explained that Gary will be bumped off very soon – but not for long.

They said: “Bosses have been trying to keep the Gary news under wraps.

“They have been heavily building up to his death.

“Gary’s mum Anna is told in next week’s scenes that he was killed driving a diplomat whose car was ambushed.”

But Gary, played by Mikey North, will actually return to Weatherfield on Christmas Day, with the insider adding: “To unexpectedly bring him back is a huge twist.

“Fans will love it.”

Gary’s surprise resurrection could explain why ITV bosses confirmed the character’s ‘death’ on their Twitter page on Monday night, with fans being left angered by the “spoiler” when they tweeted a teaser for next week’s episode.

The post read: “A devastated Sarah finally accepts the news of Gary’s death, Luke confronts Rana and things get worse for Robert.”

The storyline’s twist could be why the soap’s producers were so keen to let viewers know that Gary is about to die, and with less than one month until Christmas, fans won’t have to mourn his passing for too long…
