Coronation Street has announced details of Todd Grimshaw’s return to the cobbles, including the new actor that will be playing him.
It’s now been announced that the character will be back in Weatherfield later this year, where he’ll be played by Welsh actor Gareth Pierce.
Gareth is perhaps best known for his role in Ruth Jones’ Sky comedy Stella, having also appeared in BBC dramas Hinterland and Ordinary Lies.
He also voiced Gavin Moss in the radio soap The Archers.
Gareth said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show, and to have been entrusted with taking Todd forward into some really exciting storylines.
“It’s an honour to be part of the dedicated Coronation Street team in such unprecedented times.”
Although Gareth won’t make his on-screen debut as Todd until the autumn, soap bosses have teased that the stage will begin being set for the character’s return next week.
Todd disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 2017, and an upcoming episode will see him sending a letter to his mum, Eileen, asking for money.
Unfortunately for Todd, Eileen will still be visiting her other son, Jason, in Thailand, and when neighbours Sean and Mary open the letter themselves, they join up with Todd’s ex-partner Billy to help track him down.
During Bruno Langley’s tenure as Todd Grimshaw, he was part of some crucial storylines, not least becoming Coronation Street’s first openly gay resident.
Langley pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault in November 2017, shortly after his contract with the ITV soap was terminated.
