Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon reflects on previous role in the soap
Coronation Street's Samia Longchambon has recalled her early appearances on the soap, before she landed the role of Maria Connor.
Speaking to Inside Soap, she reminisced: "Before playing Maria, I was a child extra in Corrie. I remember Bill Waddington [Percy Sugden] and Bill Roache [Ken] walking past; they were really nice to us, so I always say hello to the kids in the show.
"When Martin Platt was having an affair with nurse Carmel, I was an extra in a toy shop. And I remember my mum getting me up at stupid o'clock to do a French plait in my hair. I was in the Kabin as well, in a scene with Rita."

Samia isn't the only Corrie actor to have previously played a background role before landing a regular character, as Cait Fitton was an extra before being cast as Lauren Bolton.
"There was an episode where Kylie Platt was taking food into school for her son Max because he wouldn't eat school dinners," she recalled. "There were loads of kids in the scene. I was one of them and we were given sweets and crisps, but I got a battered sausage.
"I hate battered sausages so I just held it but then someone behind the camera said, 'The young blonde girl needs to eat the sausage'. They repeated the scene loads of times, so I had to keep biting the sausage then spat it out into my bag.
"A couple of years later I played a guest at Steve McDonald's wedding to Michelle and sat next to Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria."

Meanwhile, Samia has called for Maria to get more scenes with former love interest Nick Tilsley and his partner Leanne Battersby (partly because she wants to spend more time with best mate Jane Danson).
