Coronation Street Star Shayne Ward Auditioned For Hollyoaks

X Factor winner-turned-Coronation Street star, Shayne Ward, has revealed that he originally auditioned for a spot on Hollyoaks when he was first moving from music to acting.

Shayne turned up on Weatherfield’s cobbled streets last summer, playing the role of Aidan Connor.

His role has proved to be a success, with Shayne picking up the Most Popular Newcomer Award at the National Television Awards, and a nomination for Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the start of his acting journey, the 31-year-old explained: “I did auditions a long time ago, which was a learning curve for me. There was Hollyoaks, and I think Casualty was one too. This was so back in the day and it was the quickest of readings.

“I’m so happy, as I wouldn’t have had a clue what was going on there! What helped me with Coronation Street was that I did get a year under my belt doing a show called Rock of Ages in the West End.

“It was great that when I did audition for Coronation Street, I already had a lot more confidence. Whereas before I had nothing behind me, no experience.”

He added that he’s learnt a lot in his short time on Corrie, and that he still gets a bit nervous on set.

As for his future in music, Shayne said: “I’ve always said from the get-go that the music is always going to be there, but I’m in such a fortunate position at the minute.

“I’m very blessed to be playing a character like Aidan in Coronation Street.

“The music is taking my focus at the moment and I’d rather focus on building my acting ability. But the music is always going to be there regardless. I’m still going to be releasing music in the future, but it’s not going to be in the next year or so I think.”
