Coronation Street is ramping up the tension over the custody battle for baby Alfie, unveiling a dramatic new trailer featuring Abi and Imran.

The pair have been locked in a struggle to gain custody of Alfie, born from a one night stand, with Imran determined to get his way by having lied that Abi is back on drugs - but now the fight is set to get even more toxic.

A trailer due to air for the first time during Monday's Emmerdale ad break will trail the ITV soap's upcoming storyline twists.

It sees the camera spin round in circles between Abi (Sally Carman) and Imran (Charlie De Melo) as it gives various views of their side of the story.

Behind Imran stands his wife Toyah (Georgia Taylor), holding a crying baby Alfie and looking at the child adoringly as Leanne (Jane Danson) and Nick (Ben Price) comfort them.

Abi, make-up smudged around her eyes, stands in front of estranged husband Kevin's garage as a police car pulls up and officers rush towards her.

Solicitor Imran has paid an associate to lie for him about Abi being back on drugs, while Toyah has been struggling with the knowledge that husband Imran cheated on her and that his actions led to them losing the child they were supposed to adopt.

Abi's marriage has hit further trouble too, as Kevin has had his hopes of a reconciliation with her dashed by finding out who the real father of Alfie is.

Will Abi manage to prove her innocence, will Toyah realise the extent of Imran's lies, and will Kevin decide to give his relationship another chance or choose to protect himself and son Jack?

The episodes showing how their story plays out are due to air over one dramatic week later this month.

John Whiston, director of continuing drama and head of ITV in the North, said: "The pigeons really do come home to roost for some of Corrie's best loved characters in this fantastic week of edge of your seat drama.

"Secrets unravel, truths hurt and lives well and truly turn upside down as the lengths Imran went to to take baby Alfie away from Abi are revealed.

"Whether your sympathies are with Abi, with Toyah or with Imran, this is not a week to be missed."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
