Coronation Street's Alison King celebrates special birthday with soap co-stars

Coronation Street's Alison King celebrated a very special birthday over the weekend.

The Carla Connor star marked turning 50 by heading out for drinks with her co-stars, Samia Longchambon (Maria), Julia Goulding (Shona), Jane Danson (Leanne), Tina O'Brien (Sarah), and Georgia Taylor (Toyah).

"Celebrated our awesome Ali King's birthday with these queens last night," Longchambon posted on Instagram alongside a photo of the actresses.

Goulding commented with an emoji, as did former Sinead star Katie McGlynn and former Rana star Bhavna Limbachia, while Taylor joked that she was "inexplicably a giant for the night" due to the way everyone is stood in the photo.

King's character is currently at the centre of a major storyline, as killer Stephen Reid has been drugging Carla in order to prove she's unfit to run the factory, and then take it over himself.

Last week's episodes saw Stephen's plan backfire as he accidentally spiked his own drink and messed up an important presentation as a result, later hallucinating his victims watching him.

Is this the beginning of his downfall, or will it make him more determined to squeeze Carla out of the top job (or even worse, make her victim number three)?

We'll find out as time goes on, but it looks like Tim Metcalfe will grow increasingly suspicious of the villain.

Todd Boyce, who plays Stephen, recently said: "He is perfectly capable of being charming – he has got Elaine, Rita, Jenny and Sarah fooled but men can be a bit wary of him. It is such a veneer, he is pretty shameless."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
