Coronation Street's Betsy Swain caught out over Underworld robbery

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has aired a new twist in Carla Connor's attack at Underworld, with DS Lisa Swain's daughter Betsy becoming a suspect.

Tonight's (November 27) episode saw DS Lisa Swain sitting at Carla's bedside after she was recovering from brain surgery following the break-in at the factory.

As Lisa was called back into work, Carla was left with Ryan and Roy Cropper. When Ryan told Carla that Betsy found her at Underworld, she became suspicious, as there was no sign of forced entry.

"How would she get in?" she asked, with Ryan offering that the thieves could've left the door open.

"Maybe," Carla said.

At the police station, Lisa was determined to pin Matty down for the crime, but she and DI Kit Green hit a setback when Alya Nazir interrupted them to corroborate Matty's whereabouts.

While Kit went to check on Matty's alibi at the garage, Lisa returned to Carla, who had just told Roy and Ryan there may be a romantic connection between her and the detective.

Finally free to go, a smug Matty challenged Lisa, making a nasty comment about her wife Becky's murder. He hinted at someone else being in the car with the man who was arrested, leaving Lisa wondering whether he may have something to do with Becky's death.

Later, Carla asked Ryan to check with Sarah, who had the keys to the factory. The Underworld owner was growing convinced that she was attacked by someone who had easy access to Underworld.

Back at the hospital, Ryan gave back a spare set of keys to Carla, saying he'd found them on her desk.

They were interrupted by Betsy, who stopped by to check on Carla. Putting two and two together, Carla realised Betsy knew more than she let on and that she must've stolen the spare keys.

Threatening to call her mum, Carla cornered Betsy, who confessed.

"I did it. It was me," the teen said, adding that she'd let the real culprits in not knowing they were going to leave Carla for dead.

"I just wanted to punish you," Betsy continued, saying she didn't want Carla to "replace" Becky and that some "lads" threatened her to help them.

As a last resort, Betsy pleaded with Carla to think of Lisa before calling the police.

"If I get sent down, she'll have no one," Betsy said. "I'm begging you."

Carla kicked Betsy out, undecided about what to do.

In the final scenes, Lisa called on Carla again. Upset over Becky's murderer being free, Lisa broke down in tears and opened up to Carla, who refrained from telling her about Betsy's involvement in the break-in.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
