They said in a statement: “Bruno Langley has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 28 November 2017.

“At around 1am on Sunday 1st October 2017, police received a report that a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at a music venue on Swan Street in the Northern Quarter.”

The charge comes after it was confirmed that Bruno has had his contract with Coronation Street terminated, with the star playing Todd Grimshaw in the ITV soap since 2001.

Speaking to The Sun, an insider explained that Corrie bosses were struggling to reshoot scenes that his character is supposed to feature in, saying: “Crew were heard discussing using a body double.

“New scenes show Adam Barlow telling Ken that Todd has left Weatherfield with his young ward Summer.”

A spokesperson for the soap confirmed that Bruno’s contract had been terminated, saying in a statement: “Bruno Langley is no longer contracted to Coronation Street.”

Bruno has vehemently denied a woman’s claims that he acted inappropriately towards her in a Manchester nightclub, Band On The Wall.

Speaking at the time, a source shared: “[Bruno] is very upset. This is devastating for him. A complaint has been received and is being taken very seriously.

“Bruno has been asked to give an account of what happened and that is being checked against the woman’s statement.

“He doesn’t even know what she is alleging beyond inappropriate conduct.”

The father-of-one thanked his friends for their support in a statement on Saturday [28 October], saying: “I’d like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period.”
