Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has landed a major TV role in a new comedy.

The actress, who played Eva Price on Corrie from 2011 to 2018, will appear in starry BBC series Scarborough, which follows the lives of family and friends in the titular seaside town.

It's the latest project from Benidorm's Derren Litten, who has called the series "unlike anything [he's] written before".

Catherine's character Karen and Jason Manford's Mike are nearly in their 40s and decide to give their relationship a second chance, five years after their split.

Mike has given up on his dream of becoming a professional entertainer in order to focus on what's now important to him in life and make up with Catherine.

So will the course of true love run smoothly for the pair this time around? Or will there be heartbreak in the karaoke booth?

The rest of the cast includes Brookside favourite Claire Sweeney, Still Open All Hours stars Stephanie Cole and Maggie Ollerenshaw, Benidorm's Steve Edge, White Gold actress Harriet Webb and National Treasure: Kiri's Gina Fillingham.

Speaking about the new series, Litten said: "I'm genuinely flattered by the calibre of actors my scripts have attracted and I can't wait for BBC audiences to get caught up in the laughter, love and intrigue I've created all set against the backdrop of this beautiful North Yorkshire fishing town."
