Coronation Street's David Platt has manipulated his wife Shona in the ongoing Clayton Hibbs storyline.

Shona's dangerous son Clayton recently returned to the soap. He was notably imprisoned after killing David's first wife Kylie in 2016.

Last week, David read emails and letters from Clayton's prison which were addressed to Shona, but he decided to hide them and not tell his wife. Instead, he paid a visit to Clayton himself.

During their meeting, Clayton shared that he was struggling, before David said that his mum wanted nothing to do with him. Shona was later informed that Clayton had been admitted to hospital as he had tried to take his own life.

Tonight's (November 18) episode saw an emotional Shona reveal to David that she had received a call about Clayton, who was showing signs of "improvement" in hospital.

"I'll always understand what you feel about Clayton and why you feel it, it's just that he's my son," she said, before assuring her husband that "we will get through this".

After checking her junk folder for an update on a prospective house, Shona came across the email from Clayton's prison that David had deleted.

Confused about how the important message ended up there, Shona felt guilty for not seeing the email sooner, while David said that they'd have to keep a closer eye on the junk folder from now on.

"You can't torture yourself. He'd already taken the pills. The best thing that could have happened is you'd have gotten to see him a bit quicker, that's all," David explained.

"Anyone else and you'd be raging," replied an angry Shona. "This is a human being, David. He matters to me, and that should count for something. In most marriages, it would."

Later, David shared his frustrations with Nick, who told his brother that he was going to throw his marriage away. "There's lives at stake," he added. "[The lies] will always come back to bite you."

Instead of telling the truth, David then convinced Shona that her brain injury could have explained how the email got put in the junk folder.

"Don't worry," he assured her. "Now we're both aware of it, we'll make sure it's the last time."

At the Rovers, David admitted to Nick that he had "dodged the blame" to avoid suspicion, before confirming that he'll clean up his "mess". When will Shona find out about her husband's lies?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
