Coronation Street's Evelyn Plummer is set to suffer a setback in her exit storyline.
Evelyn actor Maureen Lipman is taking a break from the soap, and once she returns, it won't be as a full-time cast member. Recent episodes have started to lay the foundation, with Evelyn faking a solicitor's letter.
In scenes to air across New Year's Eve to January 3, Evelyn complains that her life lacks purpose and Roy suggests that she study a law degree.

The next day, she decides to actually fill out an online application to read law at university, and just a few days later, receives a text inviting her to come in for an interview.

Things are going pretty swimmingly for Evelyn, until she attends her interview... and comes face-to-face with Marjorie Tavistock, a woman she impersonated and clashed with at a recent law lecture. Is her university dream over before it begins?
Speaking about her decision, Lipman told The Sun: "I'll be absent for a while and then coming back.

"I'm not going to die, but then I'll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. (fiancé) David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year."
And of course, another Corrie actor is making a permanent exit soon, as Gail Rodwell's (Helen Worth) final scenes air on Christmas Day.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. Meanwhile, the Christmas and New Year schedule has been confirmed.
