Coronation Street's Gary brings Oliver's illness into his latest lies

From Digital Spy

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Gary Windass continues to cover his tracks next week, pretending to have been influenced by Oliver Battersby's tragic situation.

Gary (Mikey North) needs to come up with an explanation after mysteriously dropping his threat to raise the rent at Underworld.

The Weatherfield bad boy recently spooked the factory's senior team by warning them to expect a significant rent hike. However, he backs down next week in order to stop Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) from revealing his darkest secret.

Upcoming episodes see Gary beg Sarah not to tell anyone that he killed Rick Neelan following her discovery of the truth.

Gary hopes that his heroic efforts to save Sarah from being hit by a car will work in his favour. However, he also promises to keep the factory rent as it is, which could be interpreted as a bribe.

The villain promises Sarah that he isn't trying to buy her silence, but she isn't sure what to believe.

Later, Carla Connor (Alison King) tells Gary's fiancée Maria about his u-turn over Underworld.

Maria (Samia Longchambon) is very confused by Gary's decision, as their finances aren't in a great place and they needed the extra cash.

Wasting no time, Maria demands to know whether Gary backed down because he still has feelings for Sarah.

Gary denies it, lying that his only motivation was to take the pressure off Nick, because he's having such a tough time with Oliver's illness.

Maria hugs Gary and is proud of him. For now, it seems he has done enough to keep her off the right track.
