Congratulations are in order for Coronation Street star James Burrows, who recently popped the all-important question to Sophie Coates – and she said yes!

James, who plays Michelle Connor's biological son Ali Neeson, shared the happy news with fans on Instagram, revealing that he proposed to his long-term girlfriend in the middle of Lake Windermere over the weekend.

(There's no escaping any awkward moments there, is there?)

Alongside a series of loved-up photos from the Lake District, James told fans: "So at the weekend I asked my best friend to be my wife on a boat in the middle of the lake and she said yes and it's made me one very happy man".

Equally thrilled, a number of James' Corrie co-stars offered their best wishes and congratulations to the happy couple.

"Wahey! Congratulations you guys!" Charlie de Melo, who plays Imran Habeeb, wrote. Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) and Julia Goulding (Shona Ramsey) were also feeling the love, commenting "Congrats burrows!" and "Congratulations to both of you!".

James and Sophie recently welcomed their first child together, with James revealing back in June that he and Sophie were now proud parents to a baby girl named Betty.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
