Coronation Street's Joel Deering finally arrested after Betsy twist

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Joel Deering has finally been arrested in Coronation Street.

The soap signaled Joel could be facing his downfall earlier this week when Dee-Dee Bailey and DS Lisa Swain figured out he'd bought a dodgy labour-inducing drug to spike Lauren.

However, the pair had no idea that Lisa's daughter Betsy Swain had reluctantly helped Joel secure the drug. Betsy had previously tried to blackmail Joel, before he physically attacked her.

Friday's (September 20) episode saw Betsy continuing to struggle over whether she'd tell her mother the truth, after visiting Lauren's son Frankie in the hospital.

Lauren had spotted Betsy during the visit, but the teen ran away before Lauren could find out who she was.

Lauren turned to mate Max Turner to explain that a young girl had been lurking near Frankie's hospital bed. Max quickly realised that this visitor must have been Betsy.

Outside the factory, Betsy was horrified when she was confronted by Max and Lauren. The pair demanded to know why she'd visited the hospital, but Betsy wouldn't explain herself.

Betsy's boss Carla Connor intervened, telling Max and Lauren to "do one". Back inside the factory, Betsy broke down as she admitted to Carla she'd done something horrible.

Soap viewers later saw Lisa arriving at the factory so Betsy could finally confess her involvement in Joel's horrific scheme.

Betsy explained that Joel had coerced her into ordering the labour-inducing drugs, though he'd claimed they were for a vulnerable client. Lisa finally had a solid link between Joel and the drugs he'd tried to use to kill Lauren's unborn child.

Joel was soon surprised at his flat by Lisa turning up to arrest him. When Joel protested, Lisa played him a secret recording Betsy had made of him ordering her to buy the drugs under a false name.

The evil solicitor was able to make bail and was subsequently released from jail under caution. Is this finally the end of his plotting?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
