Coronation Street actor Calum Lill has shared what will happen to Nathan Curtis next after it was revealed to soap fans that Joel Deering is the man behind Lauren Bolton's mystery disappearance.

All evidence was pointing to evil Nathan, who served seven years in prison for grooming Bethany Platt, who was just a teenager at the time. One of Lauren's hairs was found in his van, and it seemed like the prison walls were closing in on him.

But Thursday's episode, which saw Roy Cropper finally freed from his cell, also confirmed Nathan is not guilty.

As Dee-Dee Bailey, Evelyn Plummer and others celebrated Roy's freedom with him in the café, Joel said he needed to head home. On the way he bumped into Hope Stape, who had cleaned his car earlier.

When she told him she'd found a gold necklace under the seat, viewers were shown a flashback of a desperate Lauren fighting for her life, and the man standing over her was none other than Joel.

Now, Joel actor Calum has spelled out what this means for Nathan, who has just been charged with Lauren's murder. He said: "He has to make it stick on Nathan so no one ever suspects it could be Joel.

"[Representing] Nathan was a huge stroke of luck. Joel just happened to be in the right place at the right time. He was as shocked as Nathan when the hair in Nathan’s car is proved to be Lauren’s, but he doesn’t care about Nathan.

"He can justify it all [because] Nathan is a groomer and a rapist and scum of the earth. As far as Joel is concerned, he sees himself as someone who helped a girl and then had a relationship and then she pushed his buttons and she got what she had coming in.

"And his moral compass is absolutely off, he can compartmentalise anything, because Nathan's done loads wrong it is fine for him to take the rap for this."
