Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Joseph Brown sparked backlash from his family on Coronation Street in the aftermath of Mason Radcliffe’s death.

The teenager was tragically stabbed to death on Monday (January 6) by his brothers Matty and Logan, with the character succumbing to his injuries in hospital.

A separate situation saw the emergency services take longer to respond after a hoax call was made, with Joseph looking sheepish in the beginning of Wednesday’s (January 8) episode as he overheard Asha and Dev talking about the matter.

Joseph then headed to the police station and told Kit he was the one who made the hoax call. As a shocked detective looked on, Joseph shared his belief that he was at fault for Mason’s death.

Kit consoled a tearful Joseph by saying that he “hadn’t killed anybody”, though he did urge him to take away valuable lessons from the situation. Joseph returned home with Craig Tinker, who informed a horrified Chesney and Gemma what had occurred.

Chesney attempted to get to the bottom of the situation, with Joseph admitting that Hope had encouraged him to place the hoax call. Chesney and Gemma then visited Tyrone and Fiz, informing them their “twisted” daughter had put Joseph up to it.

This caused another drama as Abi (who rushed to Mason’s aid following the stabbing) and Kevin overheard their conversation, with Abi lamenting that something could have been done to “save Mason".

An enraged Kevin said his piece to the respective couples, with Fiz reasoning that neither Hope nor Joseph could have known what was going to happen. Abi eventually asked Kevin if they could leave, though she seemed perturbed as they returned home.

Joseph, meanwhile, was still feeling guilt and remorse, though Bernie attempted to console him. She spoke with Asha regarding her earlier remark that whoever made the call was “at fault” for Mason’s death, imploring her to be kinder with her words.

Asha wasn’t forthcoming, however, as she reasoned that such calls weaken an already understaffed NHS, adding: "All actions have consequences."

As Joseph and Hope apologised to Abi for their lapse in judgment, Bernie and Dev had a frank conversation…

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
