Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street star Matt Milburn has revealed that his brother, Greg Wood, inspired him to begin his acting career.
Milburn returned to the ITV soap last year to reprise his role as Tommy Orpington, a character he first played in 2016.
Wood forged his own path with roles as Rick Neelan and Trevor Royle respectively on Corrie and Hollyoaks, with Milburn revealing that he was inspired to follow his brother’s journey.

“Watching my brother in his first college play ignited my fire for it [acting],” Milburn told TV Times. “Seeing the adrenaline surge through him afterwards, I thought: ‘I’d love to give that a go.’ But I just never did.
“I struggled from my late teens to early 20s to pin down exactly what I wanted to do. I did a BTEC in Sports Science as I thought I wanted to be a PE teacher. Then I did A-Levels, and was about to do sports journalism at university when my first opportunity to act came along.
“Greg was due to film a play for his mates at university, but he got a part in Brookside [as Terry Gibson], so he put my name forward without telling me. It was called Dealer’s Choice by Patrick Marber – it’s about poker.”
“We filmed it in the basement at night, and it was the best buzz! About three weeks after that, I got an audition for Hollyoaks [as Joe Spencer] – it was like my university,” he concluded.

Milburn’s recent scenes as Tommy have seen the character strike up a bond with Tracy McDonald, and the star revealed that the pair will begin an affair in the next week.
“I was made up. It's something a bit different [for Tommy],” he teased. “[Having] looked at the scripts, it just turned to excitement. Now I've filmed a bit of the story already, and it's gone really well.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
