Former Coronation Street star Natalie Gumede is set to join the second season of DC's Titans.

In quite the departure from Weatherfield, Natalie – who played Tyrone Dobbs' violent ex-fiancée Kirsty Soames – will take on the role of another baddie in the form of Mercy Graves.

According to Deadline, Natalie will be a recurring guest star in the DC Universe original series, with Mercy as the formidable and ruthless bodyguard to Lex Luthor.

The official character biography reads: "Mercy Graves is the ruthless, cunning right-hand and bodyguard to the notorious Lex Luthor – serving her boss with unquestioned loyalty.

"Her connection to the Luthors runs deep, as Mercy has been a friend of the family and in Lex's life since they were young."

As well as appearing in the likes of Doctor Who and Jekyll and Hyde – and finishing as runner-up in 2013's Strictly Come Dancing – Natalie is best known for her role as the abusive and troubled police officer Kirsty in Corrie.

Natalie, whose character Kirsty had a child with fan-favourite Tyrone, left the cobbles after two years on the soap in 2013.

The actress will be joining the likes of Game of Thrones' Iain Glen, NYPD Blue and Ozark's Esai Morales, and Chella Man when Titans returns for a second season.

Titans airs on the DC Universe streaming service in the US, and on Netflix in the UK.
