Coronation Street's Nick Tilsley came up with a plan to expose Leanne Battersby's revenge plan in Friday's (December 27) episode.

After discovering Nick and Toyah Habeeb had rekindled their affair in secret recently, Leanne vowed to get back at them by framing her ex and her sister for fraud. It looked like her plan had been a success – and she even discovered that Nick and Toyah were trying to catch her out.

Leanne and Toyah had a heated conversation while being held in a cell following their fight, with Leanne accusing her sister of stealing her partners over the years. Toyah later dropped the bombshell that she's in love with Nick.

"What if I still love him? Where does that leave us?" Leanne asked her sister.

Meanwhile, Nick checked the security camera footage at the Bistro and grew suspicious after he spotted Leanne using two different phones behind the bar.

Back at the police station, Leanne said sorry to Toyah for not supporting her when she was ill. Toyah said that she understood and noted that it was because of Rowan's influence on Leanne when she was in the cult.

Moments later, Leanne was arrested on suspicion of fraud, while Toyah was released without charge.

Toyah later visited Nick, and he admitted he was the one who'd gone to the police after discovering Leanne had been using a burner phone to try and set him and Toyah up.

"I had to tell the police, otherwise we'd still be under suspicion," he tried to explain, but Toyah didn't seem quite so convinced.

In a police interview, Leanne claimed to Kit that she'd never seen her burner phone that was found in her pocket. She demanded a solicitor and declined to comment on the incriminating CCTV footage.

Leanne was released pending further investigation and confronted Nick, who claimed he had “no choice” but to go to the police with the evidence.

Nick's son Sam arrived and told the pair they'd behaved "worse than kids". While he said he'd been hurt by Nick and Toyah hiding their affair and didn't excuse their behaviour, he accused Leanne of being "cruel" for trying to frame them.

Sam added that if her revenge plan showed what she could be capable of, he didn't want anything to do with her. Although Leanne tried to apologise, Sam handed her back her laptop and asked her to leave.

Later, Steve McDonald found Leanne looking sad in the pub and asked her what was wrong. Leanne, who was heartbroken by Sam's rejection in particular, told Steve she'd messed up and had "no job, no friends, nobody".

Steve suggested she could stay at his house if she didn't want to be on her own and Leanne accepted.

At home, Nick and Toyah then discussed the day's emotional events and Toyah expressed sadness about how things got "out of hand".

Toyah suggested that maybe she could have solved things without going to the police as she felt she was making a breakthrough when speaking to Leanne in the police cell – but Nick disagreed.

With Leanne now under investigation for fraud, will things ever be the same between the sisters? And what do Nick's actions mean for his relationship with Toyah?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
