Coronation Street's Peter Barlow diagnosed with liver failure this Christmas

From Digital Spy

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Peter Barlow shares devastating news about his health later this month after being rushed to hospital.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) has recently suffered a relapse with his alcoholism and has received a stern warning that another drink could kill him.

Despite this, upcoming episodes see Peter defiantly take a swig of whisky while rowing with his partner Carla Connor (Alison King) over her recent infidelity.

Over the Christmas period, Peter's brother Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) is horrified to find him in a terrible state in the Victoria Gardens.

Peter is leaning against a wall, clutching his stomach and vomiting. Daniel also spots that his clothes are covered in blood.

As Peter slumps to the ground, Daniel calls for an ambulance so he can be rushed to hospital.

Once there, Peter is told that the doctors will try their best to stop the bleeding, but there's a chance he might be suffering from liver failure.

Peter urges Daniel not to tell anyone what's happening as he doesn't want his father Ken or son Simon to see him like this.

Later in the week, Peter surprises Daniel by discharging himself from hospital.

Peter catches up with Carla back on the Street and she rebukes him for doing a disappearing act. Carla is wrong-footed when Peter explains that he has been in hospital with liver failure.

Carla declares her love for Peter and says that she's desperate to look after him, but Peter is adamant that it's too late for that. Is there any hope left for Peter?
