Coronation Street's Peter left upset as Carla and Steve both doubt him

From Digital Spy

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Peter Barlow struggles to prove that he's not drinking again next week.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is left upset as his partner Carla Connor and brother-in-law Steve McDonald both doubt him in upsetting scenes.

Next week's episodes see Steve (Simon Gregson) confront Peter for failing to show up for a shift manning the switch at Streetcars.

Steve is furious to find Peter slurring his words and stumbling around the room at Number 1. He accuses Peter of drinking, but Peter is so weak that he struggles to voice his protestations of innocence.

Steve refuses to believe a word that Peter is saying and locks him inside Number 1. This has disastrous consequences when Peter collapses and has to be rushed to hospital.

Later in the week, Peter is in a better state at the hospital and gets his chance to explain himself to Carla (Alison King).

Peter insists that he has no idea what happened, but he definitely wasn't drunk. Carla refuses to believe this, convinced that Peter has relapsed again.

Soon afterwards, Carla's old flame Lucas Kempton (Glen Wallace) arrives at the hospital and asks her to return to Devon with him.

Steve encourages Carla to accept the offer, declaring that Peter is an incurable drunk and she deserves a brighter future.

Peter senses he's close to losing Carla and begs her not to give up on them, but she admits that she can't spend the rest of her life like this.

The couple are interrupted when the consultant arrives and confirms that Peter was sober when he collapsed. His disorientation was caused by toxins arising from his liver failure.
