Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Peter Barlow confides in Carla Connor next week after defying doctors' orders over his recovery.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) becomes determined to stop drinking again in upcoming episodes, but after causing so much damage to himself, the process will be complex.

Scenes airing this week see Peter tell his father Ken (Bill Roache) that he wants to kick the booze again, but doesn't know how.

When Peter later suffers a seizure and has to be rushed to hospital, doctors advise him that he'll now have to reduce his alcohol intake gradually in order to avoid sudden death.

Next week, Peter challenges his own resolve by heading to the Rovers Return for a hot pot.

The noise and smell of the pub overwhelms Peter, so he ends up rushing out.

Later, back at Number 1, Carla (Alison King) finds Peter sweating profusely and on the brink of another seizure.

Peter explains why, admitting that he hasn't been following the doctors' advice. Instead, he has been pouring his medicinal whisky down the sink whenever Ken's back is turned.

When Peter finally realises this is doing him more harm than good, he faces reality and knocks back his small prescribed measure of whisky. Can he start to make the progress he desperately needs?
